Interesting point....see also the late Peter Toon's book on the Correspondence of John Owen in his letter to Du Moulin. Seems to imply that Du Moulin was influenced by Saumur...for Owen's defense, see his article On the Doctrine of Justification where he gives biblical support for the active obedience of Christ...another interesting controversy emerged between WB Johnson, James P Boyce, and John Leland over this very issue within Southern Baptist life in the early 19th century

This is a fascinating topic to me. I have recently started to focus on the issue of "active obedience" of Christ and I honestly see no Biblical evidence for it. I realize how and why it's "needed" in the Sola Fide scheme, but in terms of actually finding it in the Bible, I am still seeking evidence.

I am making this comment because I would hope someone like John Owen had something to say on this subject, turning to specific texts. If you know of such Scripture texts or quotes from Owen, I would welcome them.

p.s. you should enable the option on your blog to "email me of follow up comments"
